Preparing for Marriage
A place to explore your relationship strengths and growth areas, have important conversations, and prepare intentionally for the marriage you are beginning together.
Marriage in Distress
A place to understand painful or recurring relationship patterns, address areas of hurt or broken trust, and begin exploring healthier ways of responding and reconnecting.
Strengthening Your Marriage
A place to strengthen communication and connection, better understand one another, and intentionally
develop healthier patterns within your relationship.
Understanding the Patterns Between You
Couples often come to counseling focused on the most recent argument.
While the immediate concern matters, I also want to help you understand the patterns underneath it.
What happens when one of you feels hurt?
How does the other respond?
What happens when one partner pursues conversation and the other pulls away?
How do past experiences, expectations, fears, or family-of-origin patterns influence the way you respond to one another today?
Many couples find themselves caught in repeated cycles. The topic may change, but the pattern often feels remarkably familiar.
Couples counseling can help identify these patterns, understand what may be contributing to them, and develop healthier ways of communicating, responding, and reconnecting.
The goal is not to decide who is the “bad guy.”
The goal is to better understand what is happening in the relationship and identify meaningful opportunities for growth.

My Approach to Couples Counseling
Couples counseling is collaborative, structured, and individualized to the needs of each couple.
I draw upon evidence-informed clinical approaches and relationship research to help couples better understand communication patterns, emotional responses, attachment, conflict cycles, family-of-origin influences, and other relationship dynamics.
Counseling may include:
• Understanding your relationship story
• Identifying recurring conflict patterns
• Strengthening communication and listening
• Increasing emotional understanding and
connection
• Exploring attachment and emotional needs
• Understanding family-of-origin influences
• Developing healthier conflict responses
• Addressing hurt and broken trust
• Exploring forgiveness and repair
• Developing appropriate boundaries
• Increasing personal responsibility
• Strengthening friendship and connection
• Developing intentional relationship practices
There is no single formula that fits every marriage. Our work together will be shaped by your relationship, your concerns, and the goals we collaboratively identify.

Christian Couples Counseling
For couples who desire a Christ-centered approach, Christian faith can be intentionally and meaningfully integrated into the counseling process.
Depending on your goals and preferences, our work may include Scripture, prayer, exploration of Christian beliefs and values, or discussion of the ways your relationship with Christ influences how you understand
yourself and respond to your spouse.
Instead, faith integration can create space for honest reflection, meaningful conversations, and exploration of how your Christian beliefs and values intersect with the health of your marriage.

More Than
Better Communication

Communication skills matter.
Learning to listen, express concerns clearly, manage conflict, and respond differently can make an important difference in a relationship.
But couples often discover that knowing how to communicate does not automatically mean they are able to do it when emotions are high.
That is why couples counseling may also explore what happens beneath the communication problem.
Fear.
Hurt.
Defensiveness.
Unspoken expectations.
Past experiences.
Patterns of withdrawal or pursuit.
Difficulty trusting.
The beliefs and meanings each spouse attaches to the other's words or actions.
Healthy relationships are built not only through better skills, but through meaningful growth in the ways couples understand, respond to, and care for one another.
Preparing for Marriage
Couples counseling is not only for marriages experiencing difficulty.
I also provide premarital counseling for engaged couples who want to intentionally prepare for marriage, strengthen their relationship, and develop a deeper understanding of one another before the wedding day.
As a certified facilitator, I may use the Prepare/Enrich or SYMBIS (Save Your Marriage Before It Starts) assessment and relationship tools to help couples explore areas of strength and potential growth.
Premarital counseling may include:
• Communication
• Conflict resolution
• Relationship expectations
• Personality differences
• Family-of-origin influences
• Finances
• Roles and responsibilities
• Intimacy
• Spiritual beliefs and practices
• Relationship strengths and growth areas
For Christian couples, premarital counseling may also create space to explore the faith, values, and commitments they desire to carry into their marriage.
The goal is not to identify a “perfect” couple. It is to help you know one another more deeply, have important conversations, and enter marriage with greater understanding and intentionality.
